Overview:
Our client, a leading medical technology company, is seeking a Director of Design, Software to join its team. This individual will lead and scale the organization’s software design function, with responsibility for ensuring high-quality design across all software products, including clinician- and lab-facing interfaces. The role includes managing a growing team of designers and reports directly to the Chief Product Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end design efforts for the company’s software products, including tablet applications, workflow tools, AI-driven interfaces, and cloud-connected device management systems.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a distributed team of designers across multiple regions.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of design quality from initial concept through product release.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to ensure efficient execution while preserving user experience quality.
  • Drive the development and consistency of design systems across a diverse product portfolio.
  • Recruit and onboard additional design talent to support organizational growth.
  • Partner with product leadership to align on roadmap priorities and integrated product and design decisions.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in product or UX design, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity
  • Strong software-focused design approach, with expertise in interaction design, user flows, and system thinking
  • Experience designing for tablet or touch-based interfaces is preferred
  • A robust portfolio demonstrating successful delivery of software products; experience in medical technology or device-connected software is highly desirable
  • Ability to work across multiple design disciplines, including UX, UI, and information architecture
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience working with distributed or cross-cultural design teams is preferred
